Varen is looking for a highly motivated, well organized, and detail oriented security professional to fill the role of Assistant Contractor Special Security Officer. Responsible for ensuring compliance with Government and Industry Security regulations and policies, including the National industrial Security Program (NISPOM), Department of Defense (DOD), and Intelligence Community Directives and Program guidance (ICD's and ICPG's).
Report to/support the Facility Security Officer (FSO) in managing classified government programs
Conduct self-inspections in preparation for security audits
Administer routine aspects of industrial security programs and support both collateral level security programs and special access programs in compliance with the NISPOM, DCID's, ICD's and other applicable government security directives
Maintain and prepare visit authorization letters (VARs)
Initiate, track, process, and maintain clearances through JPAS and other special access sites
Coordinate with customer security representatives to process security clearances
Review all security paperwork for accuracy, completion and submission via eQIP and other methods
Establish and maintain a working relationship with DSS and other government agencies in filing necessary clearance paperwork for employees, candidates, and consultants
Create reports and maintain documents and/or databases to accurately track candidates through the security process from initial clearance submission until they are granted a final clearance
Maintain a working relationship with each contract's security office for processing and maintaining employee clearances
Initiate and review periodic reinvestigations with employees
Maintain all security documentation, files, and clearance rosters in accordance with government requirements
Other duties may be assigned as necessary
High School diploma required, Bachelor's degree preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both in person and via telephone/email, Analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and customers. Ability to prioritize multiple competing priorities efficiently and effectively while working under dynamic conditions with intense deadlines. Exceptional attention to details. Flexible and able to work in a fast-paced and complex environment. Ability to adapt to new processes as required by different contracts. Fluency in data entry and Microsoft Office products is essential.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
