The Assistant Head of School is a member of the executive team, which is the senior leadership team of Ben Lippen School.
Responsibilities May serve as Acting Headmaster when the Headmaster is absent.
Advise the Headmaster on BLS academic policies, programs, operations and strategic opportunities.
Seek appropriately balanced input from multiple perspectives and constituencies in a collaborative and respectful manner.
Participate in team-based decision-making and support the decisions of the leadership team and the Headmaster.
Provide leadership in assessment and revision of the strategic plan.
Provide leadership across the institution in support and implementation of the strategic plan and new academic initiatives.
Establish Ben Lippen School-wide measures of institutional effectiveness and monitor progress relative to specific annual and long-term academic goals.
Communicate results of institutional assessment to stakeholders, constituencies and the public when needed.
Allocate Ben Lippen School resources in a manner consistent with the goals of the strategic plan as approved by the Headmaster and the Board of Trustees to advance academic initiatives.
Ensure that Ben Lippen School fosters a diversified curriculum as well as faculty in order to enhance the student learning experience.
Promote integration of academic programs and initiatives of all campuses including the Crest Online.
Support an environment that recognizes excellence and promotes a positive atmosphere of achievement and pride for students, faculty and staff.
OTHER ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee and administeracademic space planning process.
Provide leadership to all academic programs and departments.
Lead assessment of the Ben Lippen School strategic plan and implementation of the academic strategic plan.
Promote linkage and modification of academic programs to meet the evolving mission of Ben Lippen Schoolto align academic programs with the strategic plan and to meet the needs of the students and faculty.
Provide leadership to departments and offices responsible for the following functions:
diversity and equal opportunity, internal and external academic affairs, faculty development, academic assessment, signature programs research, international programs, employee engagement, and others as assigned.
Provide leadership and guidance to all academic personnel to enhance effective operation, cost efficiency and high-quality academic programs.
Work with all constituency groups to ensure that the academic programs of Ben Lippen School:
have achieved or are approaching high national ranking, or are well placed with respect to Ben Lippen Schools peer or aspirational benchmark group Identify, research, and explore new signature programs and faculty engagement opportunities that move Ben Lippen School to rise above the aspirational benchmark group of schools and enhance the experience for both faculty and students.
Complete annual reports required by the schools accrediting agency and membership organizations.
Other duties as assigned by Headmaster.
Qualifications Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral expression.
Ability to relate effectively with trustees, school personnel, parents, students, and other school constituent groups and individuals.
Display courtesy and sensitivity, ability to manage difficult or emotional situations.
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Speak effectively before groups of students and staff.
Demonstrated knowledge of school management software and the use of computers, including software programs such as Microsoft Office; ability to adapt to new technology.
Five or more years teaching experience in independent schools, public schools, colleges, or universities.
Five or more years experience in educational administration.
Successful record of leadership in faculty recruitment, evaluation, and development.
Expertise in curriculum development at large independent schools.
Professional certificates and licenses preferred.
