Director of Education

At the Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC), we have a mission to diminish poverty and enable self-sufficiency for all Howard County individuals, families, and children in need.
We meet this mission by focusing on four critical services to individuals in need:
housing assistance, food assistance, energy and weatherization assistance, and early childhood education.
CAC impacts our local community by changing lives and helping create a pathway through and out of poverty or just providing a hand up when one is needed.
CAC is looking for a Director of Education to lead its Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program.
The ECE Program provides 362 children full-day, full-year, high-quality prekindergarten services.
The right individual will be tasked with full program governance and oversight.
The Director of Education will support the ECE team by providing direct services to children and their families using the Two-Generation Approach to self-sufficiency.
This ideal candidate will have exceptional leadership skills, the ability to build relationships among teams and community partners, a deep understanding of Performance Standards and State mandates, and will design and implement strategies to grow and develop the ECE department while supporting service integration across all organizational areas.

Responsibilities:
Supports the development and expansion of community partnershipsEnsures the program operates within budget and secures in-kind contributionsSeeks grant funding, writes grants and grant reports, and oversees proposal submissionsProvides direct supervision and support to the Early Childhood Education management teamParticipates in local and state-level early childhood education activities and advisory committeesPartners with the Howard County Public School System to develop and expand effective partnershipsMonitors and maintains compliance with all Head Start and Maryland State Department of Education management systemsCompletes all Program data collection, analysis, and reporting, maximizing the use of collection systemsOversees the development of program and school readiness goals with outcome measures and reporting according to the annual Early Childhood Education Self-AssessmentOversees an equitable communication system that allows for the timely and efficient dissemination of program information to staff, parents, and communityRepresents CAC Leadership at the Head Start Policy Council and Board of Directors Program and Planning Committee, providing outcome and governance reportingRequired
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related education field5
years of supervisory experience5
years of experience in early education environmentValid driver's licenseExperience with fiscal policy, program planning, and budget developmentKnowledge of Maryland State Child Care RegulationsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAble to manage a medium to large size teamEffective decision-making and problem-solving skillsAble to work independently and collaboratively with othersAble to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectivelyStrong computer proficiency especially with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)Comfortable traveling within the county on an as-needed basis to fulfill job-related responsibilitiesAble to work in an agile and evolving work environment while maintaining a dedication to quality service deliveryPreferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
