Behavioral Support Specialist Department:
Support Services Position Overview:
Responsible for the facilitation of brief support implementation services in accordance with DDA regulations and Community Pathways Waiver.
The Behavior Support Specialist provides direct assistance and modeling to agency staff so they can independently implement methods in a participant's behavior support plan, health and safety procedure, and/or structured programming.
In order to meet these requirements, as well as provide other identified behavioral support needs at Athelas Institute, Inc.
, the following will be necessary:
Essential Job Functions:
Continued compliance with service delivery of brief support implementation services to include all required documentation.
Assisting in the delivery of clinical and behavioral support services.
In-servicing and reviewing behavioral support plans and health and safety procedures to agency staff.
Role modeling positive interventions as outlined in behavioral support plans and health and safety procedures.
Teaching communication shaping procedures.
Assisting in environmental restructuring.
Modeling shaping of functional alternatives.
Assist in the development of functional assessments in conjunction with Clinical staff.
Behavioral data collection and intervention charting reviews, report findings to Clinical staff.
Monitor staff's implementation of behavioral support plans, health and safety procedures and clinical recommendations.
Provide staff assistance in working with participants experiencing behavioral challenges.
Attendance and participation in weekly Clinical & Behavioral Department meetings.
Conduct trainings as needed for agency staff as assigned by the Clinical Staff.
Complete daily observation summary forms and other required documentation, and submit daily.
Complete daily billing forms.
Interface with all agency departments.
Research adaptive and therapeutic equipment as recommended by the Clinical team.
Attend all required trainings to include all DDA mandated trainings, all Athelas Institute, Inc.
required trainings, and all trainings assigned by the Director of Clinical & Behavioral Supports.
Check and respond to emails daily to maintain proper communication.
Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings.
Staff will be required to utilize agency electronic systems for communication, time and attendance, progress notes, incident report filing, etc.
Complete and maintain required trainings in accordance with DDA/State/Company regulations.
Travel to various agency sites and work in a mobile setting.
Other duties as may be assigned by the Director or designee.
Training and
Experience:
Preferred (2) years experience with adults with intellectual disabilities in community setting Preferred current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification Required (1) year experience working with behavioral challenges Education:
Bachelor's Degree required in psychology, counseling, applied behavior analysis, or related field
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Able to work as a team member with the ability motivate staff Knowledge and ability to practice / teach positive behavioral supports and trauma informed care best practices Understanding of applied behavioral analysis Ability to demonstrate the Mandt Systems Principles and treat staff and participants with dignity and respect Able to quickly learn Agency policies and procedures Able to communicate effectively with the public and employees in a professional, positive and friendly manner Able to handle multiple tasks Able to adjust in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility Able to keep complete, thorough, and accurate records Able to use a computer and computer software Must have excellent judgement skills Physical Requirements:
Person must be able to walk, stand, and sit for up to 8 hours Person must be able to successfully demonstrate all Mandt Systems training physical interventions and techniques, to include assisting supported person to standing, providing assistance with ambulation, physical releases, and physical restraints.
