Intern - Ops Accounting

POSITION
Summary:
The Accounting Intern will support the Operations Accounting team by helping with the monthly financial statement close process, the quarterly forecasting process, and other related processes.
The Intern may work directly with a Portfolio Controller in support of these processes for a portfolio of operating properties using industry standard software such as Yardi Voyager and Blackline.
Essential Functions:
Support Financial Statement close process by preparing and recording journal entries.
Support Financial Statement close process by preparing balance sheet account reconciliations for review by the Portfolio Controller teams.
Assist Portfolio Controller teams in forecasting process by analyzing actuals against current budget.
Prepare Real Estate Tax reconciliations to be used as support for annual operating expense reconciliations.
Monitor tenant accounts receivables and provide support for research with tenant billing questions.
SECONDARY
Responsibilities:
Participate in maintaining the internal controls and policies of COPT.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
An accounting major who is or will be at least a rising sophomore at the time of the internship.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) and ability to learn company specific software.
Strong analytical, technical, interpersonal and communication skills required.
Must be able to understand business transactions and documents.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
