Research Engineer

Job DescriptionEntry level professional position in the Consumer area of the Materials Technology Product Development department.
Working under a senior professional, they:
Supports the Materials Technologies business by designing, performing and managing growth projects to make and test new materials for applications in our consumer market areaManages the non-standard manufacture of specialty materialsProvides technical support to Sales, Marketing, Technical Service and Manufacturing organizations as neededLeads compliance to all applicable regulatory requirements in their filed and maintains a safe and orderly work environmentResponsibilities include:
Design and conduct independent, accurate and defendable scientific R/D activities to (1) evaluate and improve performance/cost of existing products and (2) develop new products.
Perform non-routine chemical analysis on raw materials and products in the market.
Interprets results.
Develops new test methodsMaintain clean and orderly laboratories and comply with all local EH&S requirementsWrite clear reports and gives presentations on research and development resultsManage non-standard manufacturing of PoliEdge in ColumbiaManage compliance with quality and regulatory processesTrain and evaluate technicians on newly developed test methods, RFTS problem solving and product development techniques.
Required SkillsStrong knowledge of chemical engineering and/or material science principles and mastery of chemistry and laboratory techniques and laboratory or pilot scale equipment and instrumentation so as to define and conduct projects in an efficient mannerDemonstrated ability to analyze data using modeling and statistical tools and to summarize in written reports and to present in group settings.
Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as modeling techniques and tools.
Ability to work well independently in a team setting under the supervision of a senior technical professionalCandidate should have good interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with other functions, including sales force and marketing on regular basisRequired ExperienceB.
